The Plain rim has the added benefit that it does not add to the cost of a die set.  Because there is typically no additional machining of the die to create a Plain rim design, it can be a very cost effective option.

For customers who want to offer a pie with a hand pinched edge, a possible option would be to order a Die Set from Comtec with a thicker PLAIN rim design and then run their thumbs around the rim of the pie after pressing to create a hand-made look.
